Why humans should prove that they are humans by filling captchas? Lets bots prove that they are not bots with adding javascript to their user-agents!

Anti-spam plugin blocks spam in comments automatically, invisibly for users and for admins.

  • no captcha, because spam is not users' problem
  • no moderation queues, because spam is not administrators' problem
  • no options, because it is great to forget about spam completely

Plugin is easy to use: just install it and it just works.

=========================

What I know now about spam and spam-bots?

  • All spam-bots does not have javascript
  • Spam-bots submit all inputs from forms so forms are parsed before being submitted
  • If input have 'email' in its name than many spam-bots tries to submit email in it automatically
  • All spam-bots does not have Cookies (Cookie array is empty)
  • Spam is very complicated now, pretty "smart" and fully automated

  1. Hi there,

Sorry to bother you, but I've just published an amazing resource post for WordPress. It's not just link bait - it took me a seriously long time to put together. And around 40 WordPress experts have contributed to the post. With that in mind, I'm really excited to tell you that Anti-spam plugin made it onto the list! You can find it here:

    http://www.wpkube.com/best-wordpress-plugins/

Anyway, without wanting to beat around the bush, I'm trying to get as much exposure as possible. I genuinely think that this list is a great resource (although I am biased ;-)). If you could find any way of promoting it, via social media or any other means, I would be enormously grateful.

    Thanks for reading!

    Cheers,

    Dev

  2. Back in September I made a comment asking about a feature to block on n number of links in a spam comment.

Webvitaly challenged me on this, stating that there is no reason as Anti-spam should take care of almost all spam as is.

I promised feedback and I am really happy to report that Webvitaly was CORRECT!

Since installing this plugin I have had zero spam at all, what a life saver!

  3. Hi, very strange problem. The plugin is working great as far as I can tell.

Over the past few days I have been receiving email that a comment has been posted to various posts, it is obviously a spam comment. It is not showing up in the dashboard, recent comments or on the post. Any ideas?

  4. I am using your plugin but I am still getting a fair amount of spam. I am wondering if it is because I have a contact form on the sidebar of each page or if it is because I also have another anti-spam plugin that wan't doing enough so I thought I'd add another one. 2 is better than 1 right? Sorry if I sound like a newbie, but I am. Thanks for any help in advance.

    • "2 is better than 1 right?" - in many cases yes, but sometimes collisions or conflicts happen.
What another anti-spam plugin do you use?

Typical comment goes to email with subject: [sitename] Please moderate: "Pagename"

Typical feedback have word "Feedback" in subject.

What kind of emails do you get?

        • I am sure that it is spam. And this spam came from feedback form via Contact Form 7 plugin. I recommend to find some captcha plugin for your Contact form.

For example I added this block to contact form template:

          [quiz quiz-490 "1+1=?|2" "1+2=?|3" "1+3=?|4" "1+4=?|5" "1+5=?|6" "1+6=?|7" "1+7=?|8" "1+8=?|9" "2+1=?|3" "2+2=?|4" "2+3=?|5" "2+4=?|6" "2+5=?|7" "2+6=?|8" "2+7=?|9" "3+1=?|4" "3+2=?|5" "3+3=?|6" "3+4=?|7" "3+5=?|8" "3+6=?|9" "4+1=?|5" "4+2=?|6" "4+3=?|7" "4+4=?|8" "4+5=?|9" "5+1=?|6" "5+2=?|7" "5+3=?|8" "5+4=?|9" "6+1=?|7" "6+2=?|8" "6+3=?|9" "7+1=?|8" "7+2=?|9" "8+1=?|9"]

and it stops spam on my feedback form.

  5. Hello, I have a spam plugin, but it lets too much spam through so going to give your plugin a try.

I'd like to make a suggestion / feature request if I may? Manually submitted spam (via the browser) will usually contain hyperlinks. Can you add an option to automatically spam a comment if it contains more than n links?

    Thanks,

    John

    • Anti-spam plugin blocks almost all automatic spam comments.
The amount of manual spam is pretty low and there is no need to filter it.
But you may try use WordPress Comment Moderation feature. Visit in you admin section: Settings =} Discussion =} Comment Moderation =} "Hold a comment in the queue if it contains 2 or more links."
Try to use anti-spam plugin some time and write me back about your experience and how many comments you received with many links.

  6. I love your Anti-Spam plugin. :-) My only feature suggestion is to have the JS file minified so it loads even faster. Minifying it would decrease file size by 47%.

  7. Up until a couple of weeks ago I was using an anti-spam plugin that toward the end was allowing far too much spam through that needed moderation. I removed that plugin.

So, I decided to use your Anti-spam plugin on three of my blogs, and a different plugin on the other four blogs.

After trialling them both over the past weeks I can say that yours is far more effective at stopping spam getting through, and, it requires far less work to set up.

Many thanks, I'll now be using it on all of my blogs.

  8. Hi,

I'm having a problem with comment posting on my site.

I've narrowed it down to the anti-spam plugin. If I disable the plugin, comments work fine.

    Here is the problem:

If someone tries to comment/reply on a post I get the following error.

    --------------

    Go back and try again.

    Error: empty answer. []

    --------------

    My site is http://renaissance-dan.com

    Any idea what's happening?

    Thanks, Dan.

  10. I installed your plugin and it does not work, I can see no entry for current 'year' only an extra form entry for 'website' This 'website' comment area also remains after I uninstalled your plug-in, Can you please give me directions as to how to remove all of your plugin from my website

    Reply
    • You will not see 'year question' visually, you could only see 2 extra inputs in the html source of the page. More info how anti-spam plugin works.

Anti-spam plugin does not add website-area to comment form. It is the default WordPress input and it is not connected to Anti-spam plugin.

Anti-spam blocks spam invisibly for users. So if you stop receiving the spam than plugin works.

If you have more questions than submit link to the website and I will try to help.

  11. brilliant!

My life nearly felt 'empty' not having to manually delete scores of daily spam comments.

And not forcing users to do more than just comment.

    genious!

    thank you.
